Finding a successful specialist book publisher in a niche market such as mind, body and spirit, and alternative therapies can be difficult. For those writers looking for such a publisher, Findhorn Press in the northeast of Scotland bill themselves as one of the world’s leading independent publishers in the fields of spirituality, healing, and self development. They are also members of the Green Press Initiave who are committed to preserving natural resources. Early Days of Findhorn PressThey started back in the 1970s as the publications department of the Findhorn Community. The first book off the press was God Spoke to Me by Eileen Caddy which is still in print today, and will no doubt remain a classic. The introduction to God Spoke to Me is, in some ways, the philosophy behind Findhorn Press. Eileen Caddy writes: “It is in that inner peace and stillness that things begin to happen, and it was in that peace and stillness that I began to hear God's voice. This book, God Spoke to Me, contains some of the many messages which I have been given ….” Success Stories : Diana Cooper, James Twyman and Allan HunterFindhorn Press is drawn to mind, body and spirit books, music and cards which guide and encourage people to live in that peace and stillness which is at the centre of all life. The titles are written by authors living all over the world and many of the books have been translated into one or more languages and then published by a local publisher. SubmissionsFindhorn Press receives thousands of submissions each year, and chooses about 20 titles for publication. Whilst these may be from recognised authors, submissions from new writers are accepted. They are very specific about what to include in submissions and do not accept short stories or poetry. There are no strings attached to a publishing contract. Marketing manager, Carol Shaw says: “Our authors are at liberty to offer their new works to whichever publisher they choose. For example Diana Cooper is published by at least 3 different UK publishers. Some of the big publishing houses tie an author to them for a certain number of years or a certain number of titles; this has never been our policy.”
